Three reasons why you shouldn’t take yourself to seriously in the gym.
Time:
Time is precious and to get the most from it we should spend it doing things we enjoy the most. Time spent exercising and increasing activity is important, but it’s not what we enjoy doing most (not for general pop anyway) our time is better spent making memories with friends and loved ones or practicing hobbies etc.
Identify:
Many people that get into exercise and the gym go on to make it a big part of their life. Often people alter their daily routine for it, their eating habits, and depending on their goals, they’ll make some sacrifices along the way too. However, It’s not their identity, the top athletes on the planet have personal lives you know! They are someone’s mum, dad, brother or sister. They have friends that they play board games with on the weekend, and watch films with at night , they aren’t defined by being an athlete. The average gym goer that takes a shining to building their physique, or takes up endurance sports most certainly shouldn’t be making it their identity.
Enjoyment:
I would say the majority of the people I work with, especially in my semi private sessions, don’t want to exercise. However, they attend my weekly sessions because they like the environment, the banter, and for the most part they feel better for doing something they know is good for them, so they learn to enjoy training, and embrace the uncomfortable feeling of it.
